Learn more about Clarkesville

Tucked into the foothills of Appalachia, this small town punches above its weight with Washington Street's collection of antique shops and local art galleries. The Chattahoochee River flows nearby, offering peaceful spots to cast a line or simply watch the water roll by. Tallulah Gorge State Park awaits with its dramatic canyon views and heart-racing suspension bridge that sways just enough to quicken your pulse. Artisan traditions thrive at Mark of the Potter and Hickory Flat Pottery, where craftspeople continue mountain traditions. For a perfect day trip, follow Panther Creek Trailhead to discover why locals consider this waterfall hike a must-do experience. Lake Burton provides a refreshing escape during summer months, when the mountain air feels like nature's air conditioning.

On my way down from the mountains I stopped at Tallulah Falls, a place I had never visited even though it very well known in Georgia.

What I wasn't expecting was the hike. On paper it looks like a mile round trip; in reality it is 1,200+ stairs round trip! It was worth it though with this fall color.
