Beautiful property, great staff, great location. They also went above and beyond to warn us of upcoming road closures which was helpful when checking out.

Incredible Visit

Our stay was absolutely incredible; the staff and bartenders went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and had everything we needed. The room was beautiful, clean and spacious with a great city view and balcony.

A little quirky check in for a business traveler, but was very smooth and the hotel design is really well done! The pictures are dead on and the guest area with its balcony with super cool. The building has its own private bar on the top floor and looked pretty hip in the daytime and would at night would be fun for a drink.

We couldn't have been more pleased. By far the best suite we have experienced in Birmingham. Bed was exceptionally comfortable , bar and restaurant were " clubby cool", amenities at no charge were a pleasant surprise, and Carlton at the check-in desk couldn't have been more helpful or personal. This is the only place we'll stay when we overnight in Birmingham.

We recently stayed at the John Hand Club Hotel on a quick trip to Birmingham. I must say, its a unique set-up, and not your typical hotel, with an obvious lobby and check-in desk. But we were well taken care of by the Gentleman who greeted us as we drove in and explained how to get to the parking area, quickly checked us in, and miraculously showed up when we forgot the last part of our instructions, to help us get to where we needed to be! It was clean, well appointed and quiet, and easy to get in and out. We will be back!

This is an amazing property! We stayed in the cobblestone suite. It had a separate seating area, access to a wonderful balcony, a walk-in shower, and a comfortable king size bed. They also provided extra linen/blankets in the closet. It can be a little confusing on how to access the security desk where you check in and then the hotel but if you follow the very detailed instructions that they send to you and use Google maps to locate the areas you will be fine. You have to first park in the visiting parking lot located at morris and 20th avenue. Then walk a few feet to the double doors of the John hand building. They will have your key card already set. When you go back to your car if you look directly across the street (still on Morris) you will see a parking deck entrance. There will even be a sign (John Hand club parking). Use your key card to access both parts of the perking deck. One you park where the security directs you to park there are two double doors.. you enter and take the elevator to the designated floor and find your suite from there There are only 6 suites I believe. Each one with a different name. There is a community kitchen that the staff hand stocked with beverages, fruit and for breakfast- bagels, fruit bars, yogurt. The hotel is located downtown Birmingham and there are several shops and restaurants within walking distance. This was an amazing stay and I will always stay at John Hand Club whenever I am in Birmingham.

Wonderful hotel!

Very nice, renovated hotel. Love the decor & their suites are spacious. Can't say enough about the water pressure in the shower! 🙂

Excellent

Don't overlook this GEM. Really cool hotel in a historic building. Only 7 rooms available tucked away on the 7th floor. Spacious, clean, and shower pressure in the bomb. 5-7 minute walks to a great array of restaurants. Will be back next time in town.

Fabulous

7 units on 1 floor of the building. First class operation. Heavy Suite was large, comfortable and clean. Free parking (next door) is easy & secure. Appears to be recent remodel. Angie at front desk was wonderful. Great location with good dining in walking distance. Felt safe walking in the area. Absolutely 100% satisfied with experience.

Can't say enough good things

I'm inclined to try and keep this place a secret so it's available still and at a reasonable price next time we are in Birmingham but this little gem deserves the good review. There was not much information online about this "hotel" but the photos and reviews I did find gave me enough confidence to book and boy was it worth it. This hotel is actually just seven (I believe) suites located on one floor of the historic John Hand building. We stayed in the Cobblestone suite which I felt had the best set up and was the only room with access to the shared balcony (shared from the common area) Upon arrival and checking in you'll be given key card access to the elevators to the 7th floor. The common area and hotel floor is stunning. Marble floors and high end lights and fixtures. There is a small kitchen area with snacks and coffee. There was a mini fridge where we kept our leftover pizza after dinner. The rooms were all booked for the evening but we only saw one other couple. There was no noise inside the hotel and very little road noise in the Cobblestone room. The other rooms might have more noise as they are on the main street. Guests of the hotel have access to the rooftop lounge and bar which made for a nice time before heading out to our Valentines dinner and concert. Parking was easy.

4/10 Fair

When we arrived around 10 pm there was only a security guard to give us our key. We had two large suites, but when we went on the elevator to our rooms there was only one large suite and a smaller room. Surprised, I went downstairs to get a key for our room that we had already paid for, a large suite. The security guard didn’t know anything, and there was no other staff.to their credit, the security personnel called the manager and inquired about our room. That was when we were told our original room had a water leak, and they had given us a smaller room instead. I understand the swapping of rooms, but not telling us in advance was not great concerning the price we paid for the full suite. I had to ask for a reduced rate, it was not offered. In my smaller suite, the bathroom faucets would spin when tried to turn them on. I had to hold the base in order to get them to turn on, and when I opened the hot water there was no actual hot water. For this price point the overall experience and maintenance of the rooms are definitely not up to par. We will stay elsewhere next time.

Our suite was comfortable in every way (bed, shower, living room, common area). My wife and I loved our stay and wished every hotel was so nice. Also, the staff was uniformly helpful and gracious.
