8/10 Very good

The staff and pub were lovely and the food good. The accommodation was basic but clean, but for the one night it was fine.
Lynette, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Good value for the money.

Although a little tired in decoration I think this is acceptable for the price of our stay. Good value and a good location. Also the food in the pub was really good.
Des, 3-night trip

8/10 Very good

Lovely, friendly place.

Outside is a little tired but pub is lovely inside and the room was fine. Excellent canalside spot and the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly.

Cozy little inn

Absolutely great stay, friendly hosts & super helpful. Pub had delicious Chinese menu which my little one loved. Playground could use a bit of love & couldn’t turn the heating off in the bathroom. Overall delightful little place and would definitely be back.
Rebecca, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

Room was dirty with cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, bathroom radiator was rusty, shower rail fell off wall as not secured, lots of black mould in the bathroom, and the amount of toenail clippings on the bathroom floor suggested it had not been cleaned.
Scott, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Good

Hotel was nice, and staff friendly. Food in the pub was lovely too. Walls however very thin, guests in next room had their tv on until 5am which meant we didn't sleep very well as we could hear it.

Great Value For Money

A very pleasant stay in a tucked away little pub. The staff were very friendly & helpful and i had a lovely Madagascan Chicken Curry in the bar before i retired to my room. The bedroom was nice and warm and the bed very comfy. Great value for money

Friendly and helpful

Really friendly and welcoming. Went an extra mile for us as we were running late. Will definitely come again. Thank you.

Lovely room, lovely landlady

I only stayed the one night and room was very spacious, comfortable and very clean. Beautiful view overlooking the canal
Ann, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Really lovely staff and the check in experience was very pleasant. The room was just about acceptable in terms of cleanliness but the toilet was not clean and still had used paper in it. The room and the surroundings were very tired and beyond worn in some places, especially the carpet on the stairs which was very dirty. As there was no breakfast, we could not comment on it. It’s such a shame because the setting is quite pleasant and it could be a lovely place to visit.

2/10 Poor

I liked the country side area...I did not like the cleanliness of the room.
Vladimiro, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Basic but good.

Basic accommodation. Pros- Clean Comfortable bed and pillows Good TV Pub onsite Food available Towels provided Friendly staff Cons- Feels remote but as long as you have a car or canal boat its ok. Phone signal is not great. I had 3 and Vodaphone, affected calls and internet connection. No wifi Would I stay again? Yes, for the price paid. No, if the price point raised without an increase in facilites and decor standards. Comment to the owners - I'd happily come back to stay a5 the price point I paid, and would love to try the asian food on offer.

4/10 Fair

Disappointed with stay

Room & toilet/shower had spiderwebs, dust & other people’s left overs! There was a cracked broken wooden toilet seat which we asked to be replaced but wasn’t. No service during 3 day stay, so no refills of tea etc. toilet rolls ran out as we left. The whole place is very tired in decor. Not everything on pub menu was available and two beers were unavailable at the bar too. The only plus was it was a nice location. Tried to contact by phone before arriving four times and each time it was not answered. Poor customer service here and will not return.
Peter, 3-night trip

2/10 Poor

TERRIBLE

Check-in was a nightmare, arrived at 3:30pm, nobody there as pub was closed until 5pm, managed to find someone in kitchen out back to let us into the room. The room looked presentable on first impressions but soon become apparent that the cleanliness was appalling, the carpet had been vacumed in some while as there were food crumbs and hairs everywhere, the walls and celings were covered in cobwebs and mold and skirting boards had rot so was crumbling , the bedshhets and towels were clean. The bathroom was another level of disgusting, 2 baby slugs on the floor, mold everywhere, the vent was noisy and covered in grime, overall the room is not fit for human inhabitation. Went upstairs to the pub for food, the lady behind the bar was rude and abrupt and had no manors, on the plus side the chinese food on offer was absolutely amazing and my complements to the chef
Anthony, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Staff very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Room was ok, cobwebs round the windows though, rest seemed clean. Water pump very loud and could be heard when other rooms were using it early in the morning. Decent budget option
Alex, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Delay on showing us to our room due to staff serving at the busy bar. Friendly when shown to room. No bath towels due to broken tumble dryer. Meal in bar good service and friendly staff.
Lindsey, 1-night trip

Exceptional friendly welcome. Rooms clean and priced correctly. Right on the canal 😁

When booking through Expedia write up stated ,breakfast was served up to 10am at a cost of £5 per head payable at hotel. The Dog and Doublet does not serve breakfast at any time. This would appear to be an error on the part of Expedia not having full knowledge of the hotel they are advertising,as we were attending a wedding locally it was an ideal place to have a good night's sleep and a breakfast before setting off for home but thanks to Expedia that was not going to happen.Get your facts right before advertising properties.

4/10 Fair

Arrived at 3pm to find the place closed with a steel shutter closed on the inside of the main door Pub had a scruffy exterior which when added to the lack of activity and no signs of life gave the impression it was abandoned. The fact it is isolated in the middle of nowhere didnt help either. A solo female traveller would have felt v vulnerable Even the taxi driver wasn't convinced it was a good idea to stay hereamdlnd hung around for 10 mins in case I needed him to drive me somewhere else. Peering through the windows on the canel side proved that rooms were made up and ready, if I could get into them After reading the fine print I called the contact number and after no reply at first I received a call back explaining that the pub wasn't open until 5pm on a Monday but accommodation could be reached by going through the 'Private No Access gate' and going through into the accommodation block Access to room via accommodation block acess looked tired and needed painting and a new carpet. Room itself was also dated and needed painting and a new carpet. It was small but functional. Bedroom furniture look dated Bathroom v small and v hot. Shower ok and water hot but sealant around shower tray showing signs of black mold and there was also debris around outside of shower tray. Room was overly hot when heating was on but cool when it wasn't and there wasnt a way to control the heating. Portable fan /cooler didn't work.Returned from my event around 10 to find pub shut and lockedup
