Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely place but in need of an uplift but would definitely stay there again

10/10 Exceptional

We were upgraded to a superior room which spacious and well appointed. Only slight negatives were the dust at the bottom of bathroom door frame and the hot water from the tap was too hot Staff were very friendly and chatty

Nice stay

Property been refurbished a few years back but needs immediate TLC in most arrears

country house hotel

My fault really for not appreciating the compromises that come with a country house hotel. The room was large and well maintained but having no air con and no proper ventilation in the bathroom meant it fell short of what I think a 4 star hotel is like. Breakfast was very good and the staff were very willing to help when asked.

Quiet stay

Very quiet location for a relaxing stay. My room was warm and had plenty of storage cabinets. The bathroom was okay but desperately showing ageing. Breakfast included a good variety of food despite gluten free muffins.

Needs some tlc

The hotel had a couple of leaks coming from the roof and buckets on the floor along the holiday - would need some attention. But otherwise a very pleasant stay!

Regular visitor to this hotel

We stay at this hotel at least 3 times a year as it is perfect for visiting family who are very close by. It is a lovely hotel but rooms are looking a little tired. Staff were over stretched on this visit. Wifi is free and good and there is a large car park.

6/10 Good

We had a pleasant stay at the the Mercure Grange Hotel for two nights. It is the first time I have stayed in a hotel without a telephone in the room. To get Room Service, we had to Google the Hotel's number and then ring them from my mobile.

Back to the 90s!

Looks like it was once a very nice hotel.....but that was quite some time ago now. Nothing terrible, but everything looks quite tired throughout. For the price I'm not complaining!

Mobility issues? Avoid at all costs!

Having done some painful damage to my knee, I arrived walking with a walking stick. I was put in a room up several flights of stairs and there is no lift (but they don't tell you that on their website). I had to drag my bags up while trying to hold onto the banister to pull myself up the stairs. I saw other guests struggling with bags on the stairs too. Yes, it was a hot night, but you could have almost cooked your dinner in the oven of a room I was put in, with only a small window and, being a hotel room with a closed door, obviously no through draught of any kind. A desk fan that barely moved a piece of paper around was my only source of ventilation, so I barely slept a wink, then had a 2o00 mile drive the next day. I have had many enjoyable stays in Mercure hotels in the past, but I won't be returning to or recommending this one. I even ended up not eating because of the trip up and down stairs again that I faced, and it was too hot in my room to sit eating there. I wouldn't normally give such a grim review of anywhere, and had some thoughtfulness of my mobility issues been forthcoming then I wouldn't be doing this now. The hotel looked tired and it was too expensive for what it was.

2/10 Poor

not in a good state of repair

all fixtures and fittings in a terrible condition. Embarassing to host interviews here. Staff were ok except guy who checked us in on the evening - very unhelpful

Toilet 🚽

Sadly my toilet wasn’t working and the hotel was full.. staff tried to fix it but it still stopped working leaving running water noise all night 😴. I was given discount which helped but not sure why house keeping did not highlight this!
Pina, 1-night trip

My opinion

Lovely hotel in lovely grounds but in need of a little TLC and modernisation. Service a little slow for evening meal but food good.. Self service breakfast usually really good but disappointed on this visit. No plates/bowls out had to ask, missing breakfast items and food not hot. Saturday Breakfast cooked to order but still not hot Room comfortable but carpet poorly fitted so a bit of a trlip haazard. Could do with some sound proofing for rooms above the function rooms as music very loud and could clearly hear the songs being played.
Dawn, 2-night trip

4/10 Fair

£125 for a one night stay without breakfast. Might have been worth it if the room we got was as shown on the website but it was more like very poor staff accommodation with early “MFI” cheap furniture and tatty headboard. Extremely sad and dated. Took some photos but can’t seem to add them. A hotel/b&b simply meeds to get the rooms right but this hotel has failed. Please arrange refund.
Dawn, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Ruined out weekend

Booked a premium room, expected much better, explained to them my wife is disabled and has mobility issues, the photos on your page showed large room with comfortable sesting. We had a small room with just 2 dinning room style chairs, not at all suitable for a disabled person, i took this up with reception who insisted it was a premium room , this room upset my wife to the extent i had to take her home the next day missing a family wedding, other issues, they knew she had mobility problems so put us in upstairs room quite a distance from entrance, no usb points in room , poor finish around bath room , the whole hotel is in need of a complete update and refurbishment, roof leaking in corridor, disabled access is very poor, on the plus side friendly staff and food is good but a little pricey, if i had the time to find a alternative hotel at short notice I would have walked out after seeing the room, I will ne making a complaint to their group head office

Lovely, friendly, and efficient staff! We were greeted by friendly staff & check in was very straight forward. Dinner was served by lovely staff and the food selection was very good. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of variety for all tastes. Our room was clean and comfortable, and excellent value.

Room was lovely and large, bed and pillows were excellent. Staff were lovely, venue was very pretty but smelt of damp which was off putting. Evening meals were all fantastic but breakfast wasnt great
