It served the purpose for the night however it was a very uncomfortable stay there was a large Moth and Spider in the room to greet us. Quite dusty room and bed. And the overall area and building felt unsafe. Will not recommend this place or return for a stay. Only decent part of our stay was the kind lady Emily who remotely checked us in.

Very good sized room - but definitely the building and surrounding area were very 'tired' looking. When we arrived to be absolutely honest we didn't think it was open. That all said, the location was excellent (we used it as a stop-over travelling down from Scotland to The Midlands) and the staff we spoke to remotely were very friendly and helpful. Although The County Lodge Brasserie wasn't open when we stayed, the Station Hotel (few minutes walk away) was a decent place to eat. Overall, the location was decent value for money (but would be good to see weeds from guttering removed and broken windows repaired, then I think overall it would look far more appealing)

Overnight Stay.

Clean and a comfortable room. Access to the shower is to climb into the bath. Not a brilliant stay as chef went home I’ll but in with this they shut the hotel bar. Why?? We didn’t get an answer. Convenience for food then an issue.

The room in a separate block was ok..but strangely you had to walk right ariund the main building to get to it...and in reverse for breakfast..ok today but in the winter? The wall holder for the hairdryer was loose and therefore unsafe..continental breakfsst was very meagre and items had to be chased up with the waitress who came in and out. Location is good and parking convenient and the room was clean though smekt musty as if not used for a while At the end of the day you get what you pay for and for what I paid I suppose it was just ok

You get less for your money

Check is is self service key in a key lock which was fine. Lodge had broken/boarded up windows in corridor which wasn’t very welcoming. Room was clean but Curtain hanging off Tie backs for curtains gone showing paint and screw holes so not finished decor Aerial on TV didn’t work. And very noisy early in the morning. Pub itself we never saw it open ( I know it doesn’t say it’s a pub but that’s not clear from some of the pictures shown on site).

One to miss

Took nearly 30mins to book in. Keys missing to room. Had to get the housekeeping key. Bathroom light and one wall light not working. Bathroom extractor ran continuously even when light off. Bed sloped from foot to headboard like sleeping with feet up. Very poor mattress. Cleanliness overall poor. Seating in restaurant very badly stained to the point did not want to sit on it so missed breakfast. Carpets and radiators in bedroom very dirty.

The Decline of the County

We have stayed at the County several times over the years the main reason being the superior car park and its central location. Unfortunately this hotel has suffered through changes of ownership and a lack of investment plus staffing problems to lose its status as Carnforths premier hotel. The hotel is mainly clean and tidy with a modern bar and dining room but the bedrooms are dated with the bath rooms still sporting the original coloured bathroom suites from the mid 90s and old showers which could only be described as a drizzle. The staff who were very friendly and helpfull all seemed to have been drafted in at the last minute to cover staff shortages. We were informed that due to a lack of a chef there would only be a continental breakfast a great disappointment.I was involved in the construction of the accommodation block in the mid 90s so i feel qualified to comment how this once great hotel has lost its way.
DAVID, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

The hotel does not exist and is closed currently. Instead, you are directed to a lock box to get access to the accommodation in the annex to the rear. This really is in a very poor state of repair. I think I was the only guest on the night of my stay and felt vulnerable and would question whether it is safe or not with no on-site staff. I had the choice of any establishment north of Lancaster and chose this, unfortunately. Don’t make the same mistake I did. No facilities whatsoever and you have to lodge your car reg with ‘someone’ or risk a £100 fine. My complaint fell on deaf ears and ‘someone’ thinks this is acceptable accommodation. It is not. The worst place I have stayed in 35 years on the road.
Annex in very poor condition.
Lock box to gain access to room keys.
Call this number on arrival.
Detritus in the car park.

Disappointed, don't book there.

I booked The County Hotel as a last-minute treat for my partner while we visited for his late brother’s birthday memorial. Sadly, the stay was hugely disappointing and we didn’t even end up staying the night. When we arrived, the room was in a shocking state. The bedsheet had a brown stain on it, which immediately made us question whether the bedding had been changed. Half the lights in the room didn’t work, making it feel dark and unwelcoming. The door to the bathroom even had a hole in it that looked like it had been punched, which made us feel uncomfortable. On top of that, the TV remote was broken, with the back missing so the batteries kept falling out — another sign that the room hadn’t been checked properly. The final straw came from the guests in the room next door. Smoke from their room came through into ours, and as I suffer from asthma, this quickly triggered irritation in my chest and breathing problems. In a hotel that should be smoke-free, this is completely unacceptable and left me with no choice but to leave. This was meant to be a comforting trip at a difficult time, but instead it added unnecessary stress and disappointment. Clean sheets, working lights, safe doors, and smoke-free rooms are the bare minimum any guest should expect — but The County Hotel failed on every count. We left without staying and will never return. Sadly, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

Decent shower but that's about it regrettably

Virtual check in to open a key safe on the front door of the adjacent building. Our room key wasn't in it. However, someone was in the annexe (where the rooms are) and met us at the door. Room was large, but quite dark as the only window was obscured by trees. There were cobwebs all over both at ceiling and floor level. Bathroom was very dated and the basin tap dripped loudly so we had to wrap a towel round it. There was damp on the ceiling of the bathroom and the sealing was mouldy. Grab rails were rusty. TV was too small for the size of the room and the remote was dirty and didn't work. The entire site had litter around it and the car park wasn't maintained. There was a boarded up window in the passage. On the plus side, the hot water was good as was the shower and the hotel (use the term losely) was centrally located. Ned was too soft for me, but my friend liked hers. Bedding and towels were clean. I would.have expected to pay under £50 pn for something of this standard. Wouldn't return and can't recommend.

I was left on my own, worked out great, planned all my excursions to the lake district, ate when i wanted, slept in the day, if needed. Bike was safe in car park. En suite room. No complaints 5* cleaner was friendly, too!

Ok for two nights

Room was quite big which was great. Had all we needed. The condition was tired and bathroom is in need of an update. Wobbly tap, mildew surround, tiles coming off. Shower pressure was good. Two beds in the room, one mattress was fine, the other you could feel the springs. Dismantled it to add the spare quilt under the sheet for comfort and found stains on the mattress cover. There was a dirty towel left on the back of the door and a coffee cup lid behind the chair-more care needed when cleaning up. No toilet roll left. It was warm, adequate for our needs.
