The lady on reception was a bit cross with me as I was trying to check in after 21:00, and she'd not been able to get through on my mobile earlier to check I was still coming - my apologies! Comfortable but very warm room, OK breakfast, very tight and limited parking on site, down a narrow drive right by the sign and immediately adjacent to the public carpark. Quiet town, nice hotel, but not really for me.

Breakfast was not good, but everything else was…

Everything was great until breakfast. Very unfriendly staffer. I asked if we could have cheese on our breakfast sandwich…no. Do you have any potatoes? No. The sandwiches were dry and unappealing, but the attitude was worse. 2 breakfast sandwiches with no condiments or sides was 35 pounds. Dinner the night before was delicious and every other staff member was wonderful. Stay at this charming inn, but eat breakfast elsewhere.

Breakfast a flop

On the whole a great stay room was comfortable staff friendly location great. The only problem was the breakfast my partner has to be gluten free and she doesn’t eat much at all I don’t like black pudding or mushrooms which we informed them yep you’re right mine came with black pudding but no mushrooms my partner who just wanted 1poached egg on one GF slice toast got 2 eggs with 2 toast next day I ended up with no black pudding but mushrooms partner again ended up with still 2 gf toast but just the one egg only after telling them twice as they were going to add bacon. Didn’t do breakfast the last day. Otherwise a lovely place to stay yes we will return but no breakfast

A great little hotel for a short stay in Oakham, we have stayed before and will probably return in the future. Our ground floor room was clean and comfortable, we were grateful for two easy chairs. The room would be better if there were coat hooks to save putting wet coats in the wardrobe and a few more hangers too. The beds and pillows were clean and comfortable. The toilet seat was loose which we reported to reception on departure. We thought the bars prices were steep and this would put us off drinking there again £19 for a medium wine, a pint and 2 packets of crisps! Otherwise a lovely stay. Friendly staff.

I stayed here for two nights with my husband on our way down south. He is from the area and wanted to see Rutland Water. We visited various parts of the reservoir and really enjoyed seeing the area around. The hotel was also walkable distance from the museum so it was good to be able to visit that, especially when it started to rain. Oakham is a nice town. although we didn't do any shopping we went to a nice cafe and good Indian restaurant one night. We had a very nice meal at the hotel on our first night and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the place. Our room was very nice with nice furnishings and the bed was comfortable. We would certainly stay at the hotel again next time we travel south.
