Staff were helpful and very polite and friendly. The hotel is basic with a straightforward menu but perfect for a stop over on the way to the ferry. Good breakfast, served promptly at our pre-ordered time. Found Newton Stewart a little down at heel, but we didn’t walk very far past the supermarket.

Lovely hotel ruined by cattle market

Arrived to find a cattle market directly opposite hotel on other side of road. Waited at reception to check in but no one came, went to bar. Lovely lady took us to our room. Sadly on the way up we saw the pub was full of farmers every where and a smell of manure where it had come off their boots in hotel hall and leading up stairs. Once in room could smell it though. Room was nice, however the bed mattress was so thin could feel the base when you sat on it, uncomfortable night. Went for food, we were put in the conservatory where it was just us. Got a jug of water ordered food. We got food which was really nice, when our plates were taken away we asked for bill, waited 15 mins still no bill, daughter went to bar and asked again waited another 15mins then we went to bar to pay, for everything going on there certainly was not enough staff. Right up until 9:30pm all that was heard in our room was the sound of cattle mooing and very loud hooves against metal as they were loaded on to Lorrie’s, Sadly this started again at 06:00am. I think this is something that on booking we should have been told about, Such a lovey little place which was made into an awful stay. I have been with hotels.com for so many years I have been left feeling I don’t want to use them again.

Very well placed and a friendly welcome

All the staff were lovely. The food was good and the bar was fun. The room was comfortable and quiet although it’s a bit of a maze to get there. Plenty of hot water. Rather creaky bed but okay.

The hotel was very comfortable and had a lovely homely atmosphere. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. We chose to have our meals in the bar and could not fault the food. The staff also coped well with the COVID restrictions. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Old, quirky hotel.

Comfy bed and friendly staff made my stay absolutely fine. Down sides though are; no bedside lamps in my room, don’t know if they’re all the same; hot water takes ages (up to 10 minutes) to come through although in fairness there’s a sign saying so and that most of the bedrooms are accessed through the function suite which o would suggest would be a major issue if there was a function on.

Great place to stay.

Great hotel. Nice modern decoration, comfy bed, excellent shower, wonderfully clean, Wifi had good coverage and was plenty fast, breakfasts were excellent as was food in restaurant, nice beers, secure area to leave my mountain bike, off road parking. Best of all were the staff, lots of smiles from lots of very helpful people. I'll stay here again.

Friendly staff adequate breakfast lovely and clean. Unfortunately the bar area was like a tap room full of young people playing darts snooker one arm bandit. This bar was open for public use and could be improved by partition and making a lounge area.

Uncomfortable..

The staff were lovely but the bed was very uncomfortable and the room was too hot. Perhaps a great place to stay in winter??

Good Hotel

I enjoyed my stay at the Crown hotel as they had very polite and tentative staff who made sure I was seen to quickly and satisfied with whatever I wanted. I ate in the Pub/Restaurant and the food was delicious. good value for the money. Overall the room was clean, staff were excellent and the food was delicious. Would definitely stay again.

A basic but not uncomfortable stay.

On arrival we were given our key but not shown to our room. As it was a pub there were lots of doors and we wandered around a bit before we found our own way upstairs. The bed was large and comfortable. The ensuite was a bit on the small side with just a shower. There were only a few electrical plugs and the bed side lamps were connected by an extension cable, which meant you had to pull the bed out if you wanted to plug in a phone charger over night.. A nice selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate were provided along with free biscuits. There was bottled water on the first night but this wasn't replaced for the second, and there were no glasses for you to help your self from the tap. The full scottish breakfast was nice but there was only toast or cereal as an alternative. A bit of yoghurt or some fresh/tinned fruit would have been nice if you don't want a full fry up. We were warned in advance that there would be entertainment on the Saturday night until 1am and they had put us in a quiet room which we really appreciated. Overall, an ok stay but a little room for improvement.

Ideal if catching Belfast ferry

Needed a hotel just off the A75 before catching the morning ferry. Could not have picked a better location than the Crown Hotel

6/10 Good

Great friendly service

Great location perfect for fishing and walking

6/10 Good

Friendly Staff

The bar tended to shut very early and my room appeared to be a converted broom cupboard. The only heating was provided by an electric oil filled radiator and my only outlook on the world was a skylight. The staff were very friendly and overall I enjoyed my stay.

6/10 Good

slightly dissapointing

Generally a quite nice hotel, the rooms where basic although quite spacious and relatively clean, bathroom was rather cramped with a tiny shower cubical. Some rooms where oddly positioned as we had to walk through the main function room to get to ours, which was a tad awkward as there was a private party on, and you could also hear the music from this till two o'clock in the morning which was very annoying. Our evening meal was very nice though, but was slightly let down by the breakfast the next morning. I'm afraid I would not revisit this hotel as I find the rooms to expensive for what they are.

8/10 Very good

On arrival the hotel did not have my booking but dealt with me promptly and found a suitable room. Staff were most apologetic about the booking issue and assured my this has now been fixed with Hotels.com. Service was excellent, food good and room comfortable so I would certainly stay there again.

8/10 Very good

Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Food very good and generous portions and served hot. I would stay at this hotel again. Hotel was just on the outskirts of the town
