It was such a good place to stay. Casual but clean and comfort.

Amazing stay. The manager, Tammy, was super nice. The building itself has an amazing vibe to it, I felt like I was in a bohemian NY apartment (and being hyperbolic here, but it's connection to Casa made me feel like it was Patti Smith staying at the Chelsea, such a cool venue)

Nice little place, very clean, on a busy street but sound was not an issue. Getting in and using the locks took a little learning.

The passcode didn’t work at first, but the owner helped me quickly on the phone. Clean and cozy room. Nice location.

Great place in the mile end!

6/10 Good

Communication was clear, but the rooms are very noisy, being located right over and in front of live music venues.

It's not fancy but a great option if this is the area in Montreal you're looking to visit. Worked really well for my family of four to catch a concert at the nearby Fairmont Theatre. Clean enough for sure and we felt safe and secure.

The stairs were a pain but the room was clean and smelled great. The ac was a perfect touch and the owner is nice! Around a 15 min walk from the metro station though!

2/10 Poor

The bathroom was disgusting, unclean with hairs all over the floor. I literally sat down on the bed and then got up and left and went somewhere else. I have no words. No reception, no bottle of promised wine, I feel really bad leaving a negative review but there was so many excellent reviews I thought maybe this people be helpful for someone to know just what they were getting into. So sorry!!

Cozy and charming

Overall we had a good experience. We loved all the quirky artwork everywhere. :) The beds were comfy, we liked the ease of having door codes and no keys to keep track of, and the shared sitting room (once someone pointed it out to us) was super cute and a nice place to write and eat meals in. It was weird, though, not having someone to check in/out with or ask questions face to face with. For example, we didn’t know there were two more bathrooms down the hall that were better furnished until one of our fellow visitors pointed it them out, we never did figure out where the courtyard or patio were, so we couldn’t use them, and we didn’t know that some people just left their food out in the shared tea area until we almost ate someone else’s breakfast rolls (thinking they were part of the hotel treats along with the tea service). Those are the kinds of things I’d ask a person at the desk about without a thought, but wouldn’t ask an email correspondent who isn’t likely to get back to me right away. It would be helpful if there were a little map or guide to the tiny hotel with that info in it in the room when you come in.
Quirky art
Charming little sitting area

4/10 Fair

Noise, (a show Downstair), not sure all security rules are followed (fire) stairway extremely hard.
Pierre, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Pink mold and the sweet scent of Sriracha

This place is great, if you don't mind the extra thick lining of pink mold in the shower, the pungent smell of Sriracha, gritty stained carpet that has yet to meet a vacuum and a mattress so firm it can reduce a lumberjack to tears. The stained bathroom walls add to the charm, as do the exposed ceiling wires (from what one can only guess was once a working bathroom fan?) Come prepared with your own soap. And gallon of bleach. And lock. Bring your own coffee too, unless you prefer to brew the one sugar packet. Most hours in the room were spent pining for disinfectants, googling bedbug registries and wondering what on earth caused the blood stain on the corner of the sheet. The Plateau is fantastic, but this really wasn't the "edge" we were looking for.

10/10 Exceptional

Would definitely stay again. P.s. toilets flush slow. If you gotta go do a test flush to make sure it can handle your output

I stayed at Pensione Popolo for multiple weeks on a work trip and Tammy the manager was super accommodating, available for questions and making sure the stay is going smoothly and comfortably. Amazing location right in the iconic Mile End, close to metros, bus lines and walking distance to different neighbourhoods, parks and food. Crisp A/C, fast wifi and multiple shared showers/bathrooms. Even with the communal aspect there is a lot of privacy and all of the other guests I met seemed happy and polite! The negative reviews are confusing to me as if you read the booking it clearly states what amenities are present in the space. Yes you are on one of the main arteries of Montreal - sounds of city come with it! There is a shared fridge and kettle. Even with my long term stay I made it work just fine. Truly an affordable, well located place to stay after exploring Montreal all day! I would definitely book in here again.

Tammy was so nice. Such a cool place, great location. Stayed 5 nights with 2 kids aged 3 and 5.

Such a cute, fun place to stay while exploring Montreal. The air conditioning was top notch on some very hot days, and although we heard the music downstairs, it was always stopped by 11 and we didn't think it was that loud. The owner was super friendly and lovely.
