Great views

Hotel needs a complete overhaul but it's cheap and cheerful so can't complain, pub adjoining the hotel is great with a lovely couple running it

Sea view was amazing. The room was large, warm and comfortable. Breakfast was really good too. Right in the heart of Tenby so close to all the shops and pubs etc. the hotel is in need of repair but it did not affect our stay at all. Great price. We would definitely stay here again

No mention that the hotel was covered in scaffolding prior to booking 2 weeks before stay, amazing location but no views for hotel as to ongoing work, rooms are in dire need of modernising, staff were great and very helpful

Brilliant harbour view room

Ok hotel, issues with poor WiFi, toilet flush not fantastic and showers took a while to heat up. Breakfast was fine, cooked breakfast was hot contrary to previous reviews. The ocean harbour view was Spectacular and without doubt the highlight! Overall, i would recommend if you get an ocean view room!!

Very good hotel!

I don't know why this hotel has a very low rate on bookings. Yes, it is old, but everything was alright. It is nice, clean, I liked a city view from my window. The bathroom was in good condition. Location is also perfect 10/10. Absolutely no problems. Highly recommend.

Cheap And Cheerful.

On a Solo walking holiday through Tenby and needed some where cheap on the Coast Path that included Breakfast. Was booked in by a very helpful Lady who told me all i needed to know re my stay. Other reviews have mentioned the decor as being tired and whilst i agree to a certain extent given the size of the building any major upgrades would be un economical to carry out without pushing up prices. So given its location with the breakfast room overlooking the beach and a decent nights sleep i was happy with my stay.

4/10 Fair

Hotel is literally being demolished before your very eyes - hopefully it will come out stronger without leaks, slanted floorways, and better windows. The rooms themselves are extremely small and not super clean. The walls are coming undone with fiberglass showing and it's just a troubling sight. Breakfast was good and staff are doing their best given the condition of the structure.

2/10 Poor

TLC required

It you want a no thrills hotel this is the one, paper bloated on the walls, very dirty. One pillow as flat as a pancake. Breakfast like a spoons kid breakfast. Hash brown needed longer! Needs a complete overhaul to compete with other hotels in the town. Only good thing is the staff are kind and helpful feel sorry for them as they know the hotel needs work!
Luke, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

The location was the only good thing about this property. The hotel needs refurbishment urgently. The room was dirty and things were broken. At breakfast the bread was mouldy and the tin fruit tasted bad (out of date)

Poor

Building was in state of disrepair could hear everything from the next room
Brett, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Good location but very old building. One of the fire doors of ground floor needs work. Didn’t provide shampoo. There was only one chair beside the sea view window which supposed to be two.

Was disappointed that we were five stories up on the attic.75 stair steps to the room . No lift , no toilet in reception, had to go up to room room was very clean and bathroom was lovely Breakfast was excellent and service was great, but left a day early as couldn’t cope with all the stairs, would never have booked there if I was informed that was the only room,

Not want to come again

The room was spacious and very clean. Two elevators were out of service. The signal of the internet was so weak that TV did not properly work. Obviously I used my 3G instead of WIFI in the room. The shower was too weak to have a shower. There was no view but the wall decorated with the artificial grass. On the same floor, someone brought his/her dog barking all morning so disturbed my sleep…not that great experience all in all

4/10 Fair

The Royal Lion Hotel is desperately in need of maintenance, it is building in a prime location, overlooking the sea, but sadly now in need of refurbishment. The pictures on the Internet do not reflect the actual poor condition of the property. The condition in our bathroom was stomach churning, I purchased cleaning products to removed the build-up of black mould around the taps and in the grouting of the surrounding tiles. The black mould atound the window was most off-putting, cleaning desperately needed. The whole property is very tired, worn out and not aesthetically pleasingly! On a positive, the bedding and towels were crisp white, the breakfast was excellent albeit very small and all the staff very friendly. This is building could be an asset to the tourist industry but in my opinion should be avoided.

Excellent value for money and peace and quiet

EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY. Excellent central location, with panoramic views of both North Beach and the harbour. I stayed in February, a winter month, so I kept coming back to my room, to enjoy the beautiful views, which I could never tire of. A real quiet place to recover and relax. Television to enjoy after dark, in a warm cosy room with high ceilings and original plaster coving. Poky B&Bs in back streets with no views at all were charging much more than the Royal Lion. A bonus is that there is Free parking in many streets in Tenby eg. The Esplanade and streets running off it, and it was so easy to find parking spaces. No need to go to a car park. There were only 5 other rooms occupied, and continental breakfast was a delight, with views over the harbour whilst enjoying your breakfast. The outside of the hotel needs refurbishment, but I gathered that the owners are only leaseholders, and the freeholder is responsible for it. But the critical success factor is the low price, plus the magnificent views, and if the hotel invested to become 4 star, guests would not want to pay the much higher rates needed to justify the investment.
Room 112
friendly seagulls tapping on my window each morning, hoping I have some crumbs left over after breakfast. They are so tame, they eat out of your hand
