Was a nice hotel where I wished I had more time to enjoy. It was off the beaten path. The Owner’s were superb. Fun if you want a quiet place in a vintage setting. Price point was above average. Overall, I liked it and would recommend.

A beautiful room with a nice comfortable bed and a spacious, well-appointed bathroom. We enjoyed our stay. The areas where I have given less stars were because there was no one at reception when we arrived and I had to go and find someone to check in, and because I was concerned about the condition of the windows - there is mould around the frames and on the upper windows and they need a good clean. Our room was on the south side so I understand why this is an issue, but it just needs a bit more care.

A hidden gem

Very charming hotel with lots of interesting history & strong tie to RNZAF. The bathroom has heated floor, what a lovely surprise! The restaurant makes nice meals and provides good customer service. The only setback is the desk inside the room was too small and there’s no power point near the desk, a bit difficult for a business traveler.

Quiet and easy to access. Friendly helpful staff Air con was uncontrollable kept resetting itself onto higher temperature therefore turned it off and opened windows which was OK but a bit noisier. Thought you would like to know that the seal on shower door was not good and leaked onto outside floor.

The room was very nice and comfortable, the staff were friendly, the food in the restaurant was very good. And it's a good location for the Wigram and southern parts of the city. But what lets the place down is it lacks atmosphere or charm in the public areas like reception and corrdiors. Considering it was once the Officers' Mess for Wigram Air Base, you'd think this would be reflected in the decor and style. But you'd hardly know, there was little to show. The corridor to our room was a long, dreary and cold space with the occasional picture on the walls which had nothing to do with the place's history or location. And the grounds were really unloved. It would not take much to make this hotel more welcoming and unique. It has such potential.
