My review

I really enjoyed my stay at Venus Hill. The location overlooked a beautiful plane, and the cabin had everything I needed for a relaxing night and efficient morning. I am heading back to Adelaide in a few months and will likely stay again.

10/10 Exceptional

This motel is interesting, whilst I stayed in an above ground room, the owners are building underground rooms. My accommodation was excellent, brand new, comfortable and clean. The manager was attentive and efficient. What I liked most was the surroundings: out of the way, vast horizon and beautiful sunset.

10/10 Exceptional

The under ground apartment was great in so many ways. Getting to experience the Coober Pedy style of living even for a short time offered an insight into the the place. The design of the space was well thought out and interesting at every turn. And our host Raymond took good care of us, told us a few stories and then left us to enjoy the space. Highly recommended for comfort and interest!!

Not at all what i was expecting. Expected underground accommodation, but got a a donga accommodation instead. It was clean, but very very minimal.

8/10 Very good

The property is in the mining fields so it is really authentic. There are long range views from the hilltop. It is owner built. We did both the container above ground and the dugout as an upgrade. The owners are into.opal mining themselves. Non commercial, very grassroots. It is the real deal but well done too. Thanks for a great experience, never forgotten. A night underground. Marg and Michael.

Stay Away !!!!!

I have to say firstly, for credibility's sake only, im a Gold customer staying in over 30 hotels per year for business and pleasure, and I've never left a bad review. However, we had an absolute appalling experience with this property, and the very aggressive and dishonest owner/operator. We arrived at a filthy, dingy property, with an old oil drum and tyre to drive around. No one was there, the office enterance was covered in a ripped green garden netting and everywhere was filthy. I called the owner on the phone, who insisted on cash payment, allbeit politely at first. We had a disagreement on this, and he simply told me if i couldnt pay him cash, then we should "go away". He wouldnt then answer the phone to hotels.com Has this place changed hands since the last reviews ? Who knows, but on my experience I promise you should stay away ! You have been warned !!!!

On balance, well pleased with our stay. This was an amazingly quirky place staying underground was a once in a lifetime experience for us. A major disappointment was no Internet though from our understanding this was a factor beyond the owners control

Driving towards the accommodation was a unique experience that only Coober Pedy can offer - outstanding - loved every moment. Mike was a wonderful host - welcoming, warm and friendly. Thank you - we would love to come back one day :)

Coober Pedy experience!

A unique place to stay in Mike's underground B and B. The place was spacious and comfortable and unlike some guests we were given plentiful breakfast supplies. We would recommend others to stay.

Good clean accommodation with friendly owner.

Incredible experience sleeping in the dug out. View from location is beautiful looking over the desert. Rooms and kitchen were clean given how remote this area is. Mobile reception is none and wifi is also intermittent. Property is good if someone wants to have that unique experience of sleeping in dugout.

Like the Mining DongA I lived in on Groote Eylandt - Though a Lot Newer and Cleaner. For all the advertising about Bed ✓ I had Trouble Finding the Breakfast as none was Offered - ? Perhaps I missed Something ? Great Location for Night Skies and Photography - I did enjoy my Stay here ***{ Three Stars} The Cat was Friendly!!

B&B that don't offer breakfast the next morning

wasn't a bad place to stay the only problem was the air con wasn't turned on pre arrival the cabin was like a sauna when i arrived poor Tv reception, poor internet reception fridge wasn't turned on pre arrival. No breakfast was offered the next morning.
Jamie, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Coober Pedy's scorching summer heat was no match for the cool comfort of our underground dugout! At a steady 23 degrees, it was a welcome respite from the blistering temperatures outside. Despite a sudden flash flood that swept through the town, our elevated dugout remained completely unaffected. While the main bed might have been a bit firm for some, we slept soundly each night, undisturbed by any discomfort. The property's lack of air conditioning was a non-issue, as the constant cool temperature and a gentle fan breeze kept us perfectly comfortable. Raymond, the caretaker, was incredibly hospitable. He not only ensured a smooth check-in but also went the extra mile by taking us on a fascinating tour of his opal mine. His warm hospitality and local insights truly enhanced our stay. We can't wait to return to this unique and peaceful retreat.

Stay here if you get the chance

This place is a true quirk of a BnB. Hewn into the rock face, the room is down a shaft and inside a man made cave. Most revelled facilities considering where it is nd who made it! Wondeful
