Couple stay in Rotherham

The Carlton Park hotel used to be a grand place, but it has clearly fallen on hard times. That is reflected in almost every aspect of the place. I had to write a list of the issues we had because there were too many, split into outright bad and nice-to-haves. Bad - The 'secure' door to the rooms corridor was never secure - the WiFi regularly cut in and out, and was not particularly fast - The room was unclean, dust all over, bathroom tiles were grubby, not fully vacuumed - shower sprays past the shower door soaking the bathroom, and the fan can't keep up with moisture. The temperature control also couldn't go cold enough. - walks are paper thin. We could hear our neighbours TV on all night. - the windows couldn't open, but we somehow still smelled cigarette smoke from time to time - through the walls?! Nice to haves: - pillows were far too thin, would have needed extras - duvet was rubbish but manageable - half the place is old, worn but grand. The other half is cheap replacements which look tatty. The worst part is the Brentwood hotel right next door does all of the above without issue, and for only very little extra cost! This place was not suitable for us as a couple visiting family. Despite booking for 2 nights we only stayed the 1. I would not recommend staying here unless you're looking for a cheap stop for working travel, and even then I would hesitate.

Don’t stay here

Very poor. Stains over the walls, peeling wallpaper, very tired and old. Hotel appeared to be shared with non paying guests from local services. These people were smoking at the front entrance constantly and could be heard shouting and swearing at staff

The hotel building is in obvious need of renovation but our family room was warm and clean. The beds were comfortable. We just wanted somewhere to shower and sleep so it suited our needs and we were not disturbed by noise. We did not want corn flakes for breakfast so we went to Morrisons and had a full English for £6 .

Jack Nicholson

Around 30+ years ago I went to a wedding here. It was quite a salubrious and luxurious hotel. Possibly the best and poshest in the area. Skip forward 30 years, it was quite sad to see the decline of this once majestic hotel. There were signs of its once style as when you enter the hotel to reception you see polished marble floors and a grand piano. However, you’re greeted, in the foyer, with piped piano music that is reminiscent of something you hear in a chapel of rest. You barely see a fellow guest and the ambience deserted corridors left me fearing that Jack Nicholson would pop round the corner screaming ‘Here’s Johnny.’ What guests you do see, are possible housed there under provisions of emergency housing from the local council. A couple of guests were regularly smoking in the foyer entrance which resulted in walking through a haze of stale smoke to get into the entrance. My room was dated which seemed to have the decor of the 1980s, which again had thinking of the set of the Shinning. Only one pillow on the bed, I’m fussy for two pillow comfort. The breakfast was advertised as £6.99 for a continental, but seeing pictures, I didn’t fancy just cornflakes, an apple and toast so I gave this a miss and got a breakfast meal deal, £3.60, a Costa coffee, a large fruit punnet and a croissants from the nearby Tesco Express. On the positive side, what little staff there were, they were pleasant, polite and attentive. The room was very clean and the quite comfy.

The room was so dirty. Luckily there was fresh bedding but there was a dead moth on the wall. The bath had not been cleaned it still had hair in from the people before. The was stains all down the walls and doors. I would not stay here again. It was very disappointing
