8/10 Very good

The in-house restaurant was great- I had one of the best fish dishes of my 5-week trip here. The room was clean and comfortable, if a bit dated.

The setting is excellent, nestled in against the bush reserve and adjacent to a stream walkway. The lodge has excellent facilities, especially the spa pool room.

Room was great and plenty of space. My son didn’t want to use the upstairs beds because it was only accessible by ladder. The staff and food were great.

Very casual but friendly.

8/10 Very good

Room was nice, but nothing special. Comfy chairs which is a bonus nowadays. Bottom of shower wasn't properly cleaned. Good meal with good proportions in the Lodge's restaurant which I would recommend.

8/10 Very good

Presentation of the main facilities, dining room all top notch. Staff without exception were approachable, friendly, helpful and cheerful under pressure. Food was well presented, good variety and very tasty. Breakfast was rather expensive, we paid $53 for yoghurt, granola, fruit, tea and coffee.

Good but needs some improvements

Nice apartment and great location. Dissappointed they have not upgraded their old TVs to Smart TVs with netflix or Sky. Only a handful of freeview channels. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant was nice.

6/10 Good

Room too hot and a about dated

Room was too hot, no air conditioning apart from floor standing fan which we had to climb up ladder to mezzanine to bring down to lower level to give any effect. Could not open windows due to sandflies and being bitten. Would have expected heat pump based air con unit and fly netting on windows. Bed was comfortable but duvet cover was too heavy. Mezzanine would be unsafe for young children to sleep in and too hot. The in-room fridge generated a lot of heat. Some lodge guests very noisy, especially those leaving early in the morning. TV channels very limited. In-room kettle lid did not open so difficult to fill with water. Restaurant meals (breakfasts/dinners) were good. Seating in restaurant uncomfortable and a bit dated

4/10 Fair

Beautiful area, amazing restaurant

Stayed here for 2 nights with our kids aged 8 & 10. There's not much else around in the area and the only places you can buy food/meals is basically the lodge restaurant or the shop across the road. They kindly squeezed us into the restaurant even tho we hadn't booked. We ended up going back the second night too. On our second day we came back from our walk (highly recommend the Mt Robert circuit) and found there was a powercut cue to a power pole being knocked over, no power in the entire town. They ran a generator to keep things going at a minimum level, and the helpfulness and attitude of the staff was amazing. They gave us boiling water from the main kitchen to make cup noodles for lunch, and were generally super helpful in a difficult situation. I was even more impressed that when the power came back on just a half hour before dinner service they were able to do their full menu right away. The rooms themselves are pretty old but functional enough, we stayed in one where there was a mezzanine level with 3 single beds, the climb up with the ladder was super awkward and the upper level was a bit stuffy, could do with a fan or skylight up there.

Two night base on our 1000 km cycle tour adventure. We arrived during a storm to a warm welcome. Well positioned, functional, friendly staff.

A lovely time at the Alpine Lodge, St Arnaud

St Arnaud is such a small town and my expectations weren’t high. However, the restaurant was excellent with very good food, great choices, lovely wines, fantastic service.
