Good value

Exceptional value for backpackers and people who want to travel cheaply. It was a pleasant environment, good kitchen facilities and the communal showers were hot and powerful. Position was perfect for travellers without car. Right next to train station and ferry.

Overnighted here after arriving on the Wellington-Picton ferry around midnight. Parking and check-in were no problem despite the late hour and the room and facilities were adequate and good value.

This started out as a great option - being woken up by people living in the house at 2am in the morning was unacceptable.

Perfect for what I needed. Just a pity that one of the girls that was in the room snored all night. Not much the owners can do about that.

6/10 Good

Check-in was smooth and easy. Caitlin and Nicci were not present in the hostel when I arrived but had left me a nice note w instructions and key to my room. Facilities basic but v clean. But to clarify, this is not a hotel but a hostel. I had booked a private room w a double bed, which was spartan but comfortable (might be nice to have a reading lamp?). Bathroom/shower area (co-ed) downstairs. Great that breakfast is provided, and other guests I met were nice and cleaned up after themselves. But I was woken up just after 3am (!) by a half dozen people making themselves breakfast, laughing and talking quite loudly, clanging pans and dishes around, as though completely oblivious to how loud they were. And I'm a deep sleeper. Went on for a long while, kind of ruined my sleep. I've no idea how regular this is, but that should not happen, even for a hostel? And for my one night stay I was not paying hostel prices ($85NZ). A sign somewhere said that breakfast was available from 6am onwards, but with no one was on the property to enforce this nothing could be done. I opened my door at some point looking at them quizzically, didn't want to be 'that person', but nothing changed. :(. This explains my rating. The good thing is that they're right beside the train station, which meant I just trundled over there in the morning at 10 to check in for my trip.

I needed a place to stay for a couple of hours and this location was perfect. The Intercity bus stop oblique opposite the hostel and the ferry terminal is next door. I booked the same day and the turn around response was exceptional and the self check in directions was easy to follow. The room was clean, the water power was strong and the kitchen was fully stock.

10/10 Exceptional

Hostel with several full service hotel rooms (which is what i had). The front door had a secure access code. The room was clean, linens soft and in good condition. The kitchen and dishes were new and in really nice condition and much better than similar hotels. Probably the best experience Ive had with any similar lodging. I slept well, but you are a couple of blocks from the ferry, so you may hear heavy trucks on the road early in the morning. It was quiet enough for me. There were multiple options for breakfast. The desk staff were responsive and made sure i had everything i needed. The towels were soft. It was a perfect fast overnight stay.

Clean and tidy backpackers

Clean and tidy backpackers, was off season so very quiet. Late check in was no issue and proprietors easy available over phone.

The bedroom was cold with no form of heating. There were no bedside tables or any furniture other than the bed. The curtains closed but the outside lights and street lights were so bright they lit up the room. The stairs into the bathroom were tricky.
Glenn, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

We arrived at midnight so checkin was great. Very easy. The main ussue was no heating. The window in our room was open for ventilation but at 6°C outside, it was a bit chilly, and with no heater we had to warm ourselves up. The duvet was warm though, and the bed comfortable enough. Breakfast was a bit confusing as there were what seemed to be a lot of traverllers' food lying around, with no indication of what was provided. Just had to guess. Leaving a heater in the room for us would have been helpful.
Richard, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Great team and really clean and tidy. A lot of seasonal workers staying and are up and down all night, cooking, running up and down the stairs, noisy, shiies spread all over hallway. We had our 2 children with us and we didn’t get any sleep at and the kids were frightened due to contact doors banging, to frightened to go to the toilet as there would be 4 or mite at a time altogether in thise areas. Possibly isn’t a place for families when seasonal workers are there as there was no respect for other customers nor children. We had to do 11 and a half hour trip to return home without any sleep at all.
