Kelo-Glass Igloo was fantastic!

Fantastic resort! Only one restaurant was open and the food wasn’t great (it was fine, just not great) but everything else made up for it. We stayed in a lovely Kelo-Glass igloo and absolutely loved it. The activities were fun—best were snowmobile, dog sledding and feeding the reindeer.

What a magical experience.. we love the East village,, it’s quiet and the staff are super friendly and helpful.. from beginning to end we were satisfied with the service, food in the dining area, the bell boy service.. the excursions are in the west side but we love East side more.. we saw the Aurora 3 nights of our 4 nights stay .. and yes their aurora alarm works.. we came here not for the convenience but for the REAL igloo experience and we are glad we did it.. thank you,, our winter vacation was perfect

We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. We loved the Kelo cabin. Everything about this place made for a very relaxing vacation. We were very satisfied the dining each night. They had four main menus that rotated each day. Our favorite excursion was the dog sledding. We have enthusiastically recommended Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort to all of our friends and family.

The most unique accommodation for northern lights

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! This place is one of a kind with glass dome windows in half of our large suite. There are only two of us, but the place can accommodate at least 6. We saw Northern Lights on our last night there and it was an unforgettable sight for a lifetime. The meals were also delicious, coupled with a variety of activities within the resort, such as snowmobiling, reindeer ride, visiting Santa's home etc. We can't wait to go back again soon!

Very limited shuttle service in the resort and poor scheduling for the shuttle. For the room price they’re selling, they should provide better service, not an excuse to customer.

Other than very expensive activities there is nothing to do. It is a beautiful location but very remote. The igloo stay is an experience though and was amazing to view the northern lights.

I just love the glass igloo. it was quite an experience. Waking up seeing the sky. It was beautiful. Miss seeing aurora but the experience is unforgettable. Food was good and staff were ok.

Before I made reservations in this hotel I read so many opinions. Some of them was really bad so I afraid book this hotel. But I am so happy I did. Everything was perfect. Everybody was so nice and helpful. Food was delicious especially dinner. I will recommend this hotel ( we spend one night in the igloo) to everyone.

We had booked the west village chalet and west village igloo for one day each.Though expensive but we felt it was one of a kind experience. The chalet was clean, cosy, spacious and had finnish sauna .There was also a fireplace but you had to pay extra for firewood which we felt could have been included in the price .The igloo was also pretty with bathroom and finnish sauna. You need a shuttle bus to go to bus stop near East village which is free but needs to be coordinated with the reception in advance. Also the lugguage transfer was included which was great considering it was snowing when we arrived. The breafast and dinner was included , the options for breakfast are limited but manageable. The 3 course meal for dinner we opted for Indian menu which turned out good considering the location though the portion was small. We did the reindeer safari here and it was managed well. The staff we encountered throughout our stay were very polite, friendly and accomodating.

6/10 Good

I was surprised that there were no Finnish people working at the resort. The dinner was luke warm not hot. The dessert was not as described and had zero flavor. The smoke sauna was an incredible delight. Over all I’d say the facilities need some updating. I believe the price that you are paying to stay here is not for customer service or food quality or facilities but the experience. If you only are seeking a visual delight and cost is not an issue then I would stay here.
Jana, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

Overpriced, overrated, overcrowded, understaffed. At peak holiday times this property is just too large to be able to keep a good quality of service. Staff is overstretched and exhausted having to deal with unruly and noisy groups. I would not recommend a stay there to solo travellers or couples. The location is nice but transport to the nearby village is limited and expensive (100 euros return for a 15 km ride!). The menu fixe restaurant has only three choices, two of which Indian (why??). Activities are ok but not well explained at booking: we discovered that a two hour “adventure” actually lasts only 30 minutes as the rest of the time includes transport, dressing up with warmer clothes (included in the price) and explanations/ instructions. Cabins are nice and well heated and they have a private sauna. They have a kitchenette but unless you bring your own food they are useless given the cost of reaching the closest supermarket. At 800 dollars a night we were expecting something with better facilities and service. This resort has neither.
Gaetano, 4-night trip

8/10 Very good

We stayed 2 nights in Feb 2025. First night was at the Glass Igloo then Log Cabin at the East Village. Pros: We chose the East versus West for a more authentic experience. Anastasio at the reception desk was accommodating and welcoming. Food selections at the restaurant for Breakfast and Dinner were great as are the ladies, Mailyn and Rochelle, the servers who always had a smile when you walk in. I see all workers really work hard in doing their jobs including the shuttle drivers and the guy who lit the fireplace in our cabin. CONS: East village Glass Igloos could use some renovations. There were some bugs on the floor. Whoever is in charge of booking is a huge let down. When I booked my Glass Igloo reservation, I mistakenly booked for 2 nights. I immediately sent a message to Kaklaustannen and later with help of Expedia reps to have the 2nd night, NOT CANCEL, but switch to Log cabin for comfort of my husband who is 72 years old. They repeatedly denied even though for it’s for medical reasons since my husband has a bad knee and heart issue. I end up purchasing an extra reservation for the 2nd night so he could be more comfortable at the Log Cabin. So I had 2 reservations for the 2nd night!! The management is downright callous, inconsiderate and greedy.Log cabins are actually cheaper than Glass igloos and I initially booked in Oct ‘24. Plenty of time to switch. Even the Expedia reps tried to help and advocated since it’s for medical reasons but to no avail.

1.We loved this property. We stayed in the small glass igloo for three nights. Clean, warm, cozy, unique, wonderful grounds, walkable, even the wifi was great when I needed to check-in with work, great experience. BUT- 2. For $600 a night, a tole but no shower? There is room for a shower vs the 200m walks to the barely used shower house. Speaking of the shower house, the sauna hours didn't start until 1700 and were separated by male and female saunas, no combined experience. The breakfast and dinners were included, but were high school cafeteria quality (soups, bread, pasta, with plate cake desserts). No pool, no massage available, no bar open. 3. The front desk staff were heroes, amazing even while working in chaos. All activities meet in the front desk area and people get nervous when it is past the meet time and you are still waiting - so people ask the desk agents. Why not put up a digital sign stating the schedule? You also have to wait in line with the front desk to reserve your dinner time - why not add a digital roster in the rooms, online, or in the lobby, or even a simple clipboard instead of using front desk lines and their time? No pool but you built a massive multimillion dollar art gallery and gift shop? Why not turn the cavernous gallery into an indoor / outdoor pool with saunas, there is room and would give stranded guests a place to go while waiting to check in / check out instead of the lobby looking like the waiting area of a bus station.
