Hostel is right across the street from the tram, buses and the Fat Margaret area of the old town. The train station is in the area. About a thousand feet down the street is an excellent, full service grocery store, and a convenience store in the other direction. Shopping is otherwise limited.
No real sit down restaurants in the neighborhood, but then again it's very close to the old town. On cleanliness, i give them a "good.". That is, certainly it's not bad but overall it could be better. The hostel is in an old building but I had no particular problems. They have a basement recreation room with TV, community kitchen, and sauna which I can't comment on. They also offer a free make-it-yourself Belgian waffle facility in the morning. Also I think that reception is open 24 hours. I would not hesitate to stay there again.
