The host was not very polite and seemed in a big hurry to check out for the day. The bedroom was hot as A/C didnt reach the room. The bed was comfortable enough, but the suite looked straight out of the 70's. We were provided with enough clean towels and kitchen equipment and he was quick to replace the broken toaster. I'd never been to Port Alberni, but the neighborhood was older, but safe enough. The cost did not reflect the quality and I'd probably not return, unless I needed a quick rest stop.

Worst experience ever - the property is old and the room was dirty, smelled so bad and the furniture was really outdated ! We left after a quick tour of the room , I would have never stayed in there!

Multi-room apt w Fridge, oven, toaster etc. The carpet was very stained and wet. We had to wear shoes. The tub was poorly painted - weird. Beds were a bit soft but comfy. If only they had vinyl floors.

It is unreasonable to expect a 5 star experience at a 2 star price. For the price, Sunset is a good deal. The room was large, clean, had two beds in the bedroom and a cot in the main room. It had a kitchen, which we didn't use. Previous comments complained about the neighboring room and her dog. The dog is intimidating but actually friendly, as was the neighbor. There was a lot of noise from the adjacent mobile home park but closing the windows eliminated that

I want to give this place a good review but the smell of suite #23 (likely from the old, stained, sticky carpets) made this stay very unpleasant for me. No matter me leaving the windows open the entire time and running the two fans this place smelled so bad. If you can overlook strong smells here are the good points: Very spacious suite, a full kitchen, conveniently located, great price, windows facing both the front and the back so you can get the morning and evening sunlight.

Carpets were dirty and unhygenic, whole property were smelling and i had two kids one infant and one 4 year old girl . They could not sleep whole night due to smell and unhygenic condition. I would highly appreciate if expedia could refund some sort of money as my infant and my daughter coukd not sleep whole Night due to unhygenic enviornment. Expedia should not promote such a smelly properties

I'd like to start by saying that the room was spacious, with a bedroom with 2 double-beds, a room family room, and a decent sized kitchen too for a great price. Bedsheets were clean and the staffperson was nice too. However, everything looked like it was about to fall apart. The room we were going to be put in was frightening, dark and mouldly-smelling, and it backed on to a scary-looking trailer park. Thankfully we were moved up front, but it was only marginally better. If you have low standards and need a kitchen, this might be okay, but there are probably better options in town for similar price.

Old motel in bad neighborhood.

The owner/operator was challenging to communicate with both in person and by phone. Very old property with some maintenance so not completely run down but definitely not in good shape, in need of serious upgrades. Beds were reasonably comfortable, no offensive odors and we didn’t see any bugs so that was good. The trailer park behind the room was totally sketchy with people up and about all night long, although they didn’t make a lot of noise, it felt very unsafe. You must check in before 8pm and the office smells terrible. The pictures look better than real life. It would be worth a few more dollars to stay elsewhere, we will not return.

The suites should be closed until they do some work to them!! I suggest closing them and redoing the insides completely . It was so dirty….. we didn’t want to stay but we had already paid. It stunk so bad and really triggered my allergies. So I didn’t sleep. Beds were ok but the sheets are old and scratchy. The kitchen counters were clean but don’t look at the floor and corners. The bathroom was clean but the tub was dirty and stained, no one showered . There was food crumbs on the coffee table in the living room. Pillows from the 60s and family apart. Overall, disgusting!! DON’T STAY THERE!!

This property is squarely in the worst part of Port Alberni. Surrounded by a dilapidated trailer park. Locals mentioned to us that it is often rented by the hour. Staff booked us into a room that was already occupied by another guest. Checked us in at 12:00, but cut could not get us in early (we traveled to PA for an afternoon birthday celebbration) and when we returned later in the evening, we discovered the double booking issue. Had to bang on doors for over a half hour only to be told to go awa. Had to refresh the person’s memory that it was he who had checked us in earlier. After an hour we finally got a room…and let me tell you it was not worth the wait. Stay away from this property at all costs. Scraping underneath the bottom of the barrel.

The AC much appreciated, also the beds were most comfortable.

Super cute and convient location, door didn’t close properly, and the room was a bit messy but all around great place to crash for a weekend

I was grateful to have a roof over my head on short notice over a high demand period that accepted pets. I am sure this place was once a very nice destination (probably 50-60 years ago). However, it was not well-maintained and the room was shabby. Credit for clean linens on the bed. Towels well past their usefulness - time to turn them into car rags. No recommendation from me.

2/10 Poor

Would never stay here again. There was an awful urine and musty smell. Stains on the beds, flooring & bathroom. It looks like it gets a ten second tidy, aside from the towels, that were clean but smelt strongly of bleach. Location felt very unsafe. Thankfully the AC worked well for how hot it was. The “couch” is a futon bed and you can feel every spring. There is class everywhere, everything is unplugged because they want to avoid extra costs for running the utilities. Dishes were not cleaned properly, the fridge had a smell. Needless to say, I will never stay here again.

The location is good. The property had a musty smell as we entered the room. The carpet had a damp feel. The beds were in good shape. Towels were clean. If the property has a clean paint and carpet replaced, it will be a good stay.
