Very nice, clean, private—and affordable too!
Our room, #5, was on the third floor in the back, and I just loved it. Our big window overlooked slate rooftops, a tiny sliver of garden brimming with roses and foxgloves and distant hilltops dotted with sheep. At sunset, the sky over the stone chimney tops blazed with orange, red and pink.
Our immaculate room had relaxed understated decor and a clean modern tiled bath with roomy shower, big thirsty towels, heated towel rack and plenty of hot water. The bed was comfy and there were nightstands with good reading lights on both sides. A particularly nice touch was the real coffee and plunge pot provided, along with a bottle of milk in the fridge. The room was very quiet with zero traffic noise.
Phil and Helen went out of their way to be accommodating and helpful: I mentioned one morning that the shower pan was a bit slippery and when we returned that evening there was a brand-new bathmat ! The Belford house is only 5 minutes from the train and even closer to the bus stop- very handy for getting back and forth to Hadrian’s Walll.
Lastly, another great thing about this place is it’s close proximity to cafes, pubs and shops.—Billy Bell’s in particular has sweet and savory pastries that you can take back tooth room or eat in the square.
